Description

Ahuachapán, El Salvador

Our top tier coffee comes from El Salvador…the first nation to declare bitcoin legal tender in 2021. The beans come from Finca Las Veraneras in Ahuachapán, the westernmost city and an an agricultural center for coffee.

El Salvador Map

The elevation is 950 meters above sea level and the surrounding mountains experience a significant amount of geothermal activity. There is a geothermal electricity plant in the town as well as a hydroelectric station. Hopefully they are using some of that energy to mine bitcoin as well!

The Farm/La Finca

The farm is part of the Apaneca Ilamatepec Denomination Origin coffee mountain range of El Salvador. Las Veraneras is a 20 hectare farm worked by Mr. Jorge Cruz Reyes who enjoys traditional planting and harvesting methods for the coffee varietals grown at the farm.

Finca Las Veraneras is the cradle of the BioKrop Project, an initiative of a consortium of various single-origin specialty microlot coffee farms across the six mountain regions of El Salvador.

The project’s focus is to work with nature and improve the soil using microorganisms, compost and natural fertilizers with ancestral biodynamic practices. These agro-ecological farming practices yield healthy sustainable harvests in the production of coffee, cocoa, and honey. Harvest at Las Veraneras is critical, as the most ripe coffee fruit is picked daily and the farm is well known for innovative fermentation and drying practices to create unique profiles.

Mr. Cruz and his family have been instrumental in pushing the quality of the coffee processing allowing their plants to bring forth their best qualities in order to be able to harvest great results towards a juicy, complex, and downright delicious coffees.

The Coffee

This is an absolutely delicious coffee and very unique in its properties. The coffee tastes so much like the pulp of coffee fruit or “cherry” itself. It is sweet, delicate, and floral in its flavor profile. You may also taste spices, dry fruits, and cane sugar. The coffee is delicious when used for espresso as well as for regular coffee. We guarantee you will love it!

The black honey processing is the most labor-intensive, but you will get a sweetness to the bean as a result. If you’re not familiar with honey processing, you can read more about it here.
